Should I visit Prague in the Spring?
I would recommend that you visit Prague any time from April to the end of May because most parks are closed until the end of March. April is a colder month but most trees will be in blooms during this time, whereas May is warmer but a lot of trees might not be blooming anymore. If you visit in April, you will also be able to attend Prague’s Easter markets which are lovely 🐣!
What is the weather like in Prague during spring?
If you travel to Prague in early March, there might still be some snowy days 🌨️. On the opposite, if you go there late May, the weather will already be summery and warm (but the blooms will be gone). March is also definitely less touristy than May.
What to wear in Prague during spring?
The weather is incredibly versatile during this time of year so you should pack clothes that you can layer and take off depending on the temperature 🧣. Do not forget to bring an umbrella and rain boots as well because it tends to rain quite randomly in Prague during spring ☂️.
What to do in Prague during Easter
Prague’s colorful Easter markets (velikonoční trhy) are usually open from March 20th until the end of Easter celebrations (Easter Monday). They are located all around town but the most famous ones are at Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, and Republic Square. You can buy cute handicrafts such as kraslice, which are decorative eggshells 🎨🥚.
Easter in the Czech Republic is an interesting mix of Christian and pagan traditions. One of those traditions, that is rather unusual, happens on Easter Monday. Boys braid willow branches into whips (pomlázka), decorate them with ribbons, and go from house to house to whip girls for luck and fertility. In exchange, girls offer them painted Easter eggs and alcohol (usually slivovice, which is plum brandy).
Holy Thursday is called Green Thursday (Zelenýčtvrtek) in the Czech Republic. Since the tradition wants you to consume something green, the brewery Starobrno started to produce a special batch of green beer, only produced once a year for the occasion. So drink a zelené pivo if you are there on Green Thursday 💚🍺!
What do I need to know before visiting Prague in the spring?
If you are planning a trip to see Prague’s blossoms 🌸, keep in mind that most blooms usually only last several weeks. Changes in weather conditions can also impact the flowering period so you should always try to look it up before your visit!

Year after year I have been chasing the blossoms in Prague so I created this amazing list to facilitate your visit during this time of year. Without further ado, here is the ultimate list of where to see cherry blossoms in Prague!
Where to See the Best Cherry Blossoms in Prague?
1 • Ujezd
In Malá Strana, at the bottom of Petřín Hill, you can find a row of gorgeous cherry trees located night next to the tram stop Ujezd. To find them, you can hop on tram 7, 12, 20, 22, or 23 all the way to Ujezd station. You definitely can’t miss the pink blossoms once there!
From Újezd, you can take the Petřín funicular that connects the Malá Strana district with the top of Petřín hill. Using a regular tram ticket, you can get to the top of the hill super fast! The funicular operates daily and the interval is between 15 and 20 minutes.
2 • Petřín
The Petřín hill, which has a discount version of the Eiffel Tower on its top, offers incredible panoramic views of the entire city. Located on the hill, an ancient monastery garden, now called the Seminary Garden, is famous for its fruit orchards, which are in full bloom during Spring. There are approximately 2,100 fruit trees in this garden, making in the perfect place to visit in Prague during this time of year!
There is a very sweet Czech tradition that happens on the 1st of May: couples in Prague should kiss each other under the blooming trees in Petřín. The tradition is related to one of the most popular Czech poems called “May” written by Karel Hynek Macha. Petřín is definitely the place to be if you want to snap some cute photos with your loved one under the blooming trees!
3 • Wallenstein Garden
Called Valdštejnská Zahrada in Czech, the Wallenstein Garden is the geometric Baroque garden of the Senate. In summer, the garden is a venue for concerts and theatrical performances. The garden is home to beautiful peacocks and even to an albino one! The garden is located very close to the Vojan Garden and is also home to pretty blooming trees. A must visit during Spring.
The Wallenstein Garden is only open from April until the end of October. The opening hours vary depending on the day and month so you can find them here.
4 • Stromovka
Located in Prague 7, in the North of the city, Stromovka is the largest park of its kind in Prague. It is a green oasis that I like to call Prague’s Central Park. This place is beloved by joggers and dog walkers as well as families looking for a quiet and pretty place to have a picnic.
In Stromovka, pink cherry trees can be found by the main lake that is located in the middle of the park, and all around.
5 • Jiřího z Poděbrad
This square, located in a residential area, is dominated by the interesting Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord (Kostel Nejsvětějšího Srdce Páně) and surrounded by cherry blossoms during Spring. It is a lovely place to visit during the weekend because there are always local markets and events happening there. If you want to immerse yourself into Czech culture with an expat twist, this square is for you!
The Farmers’ Market at Jiřák (how locals call Jiřího z Poděbrad) is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM.
6 • Lyčkovo náměstí
Karlín is a lovely residential area in Prague 8 where I lived for 2 years. A lot of cute places and blooming trees can be found around Karlín but my favorite is next to a park called Lyčkovo náměstí or, Lyčkovo square in English. In the middle of the square, an Art Nouveau primary school building stands proudly. If you are facing the school, the street along the park on the right is bordered by trees that blossom
After taking a couple of snaps at Lyčkovo náměstí, head to Můj šálek kávy, on Křižíkova. It is one of my favorite brunch spots in Prague. Their coffee is incredible!
7 • Náměstí Míru
Náměstí Míru, or the Peace Square, is a popular square located in one of the residential areas of Prague, Vinohrady. During Spring, the magnolia trees turn pink, allowing for incredible photos opportunities with the Church of St. Ludmila in the background. This place isn’t that touristy yet so it is mostly frequented by locals and expats.
Do not forget to check out the Vinohrady Theatre (Divadlo na Vinohradech) that is located on the square.
8 • Vojan Gardens
The Vojan Gardens, or Vojanovy Sady in Czech, are a hidden gem located right in the middle of the city. It is an amazing park to go to especially during Spring. There are a lot of blooming trees such as magnolias and the photo opportunities are endless! As the oldest partially preserved garden in Prague, you can go there to relax and escape the busy city. At the end of the garden, above the big staircase, you can find a panoramic terrace with a pink pergola. Perfect for Spring!
The Vojan Gardens are open every day all year long and the entrance is free.
9 • Strahov Monastery
The Strahov Monastery, founded in 1140, is a complex where you can find the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the gorgeous and photogenic Strahov Library and the Strahov Gallery with its collections of Gothic, Baroque and Rococo paintings. There is also the Strahov Brewery, where you can drink beer brewed by the monks there! During Springtime, a gorgeous magnolia tree blooms in front of the Monastery.
The Strahov Monastery is open every day (except for December 24, 25, and April 12) from 9 AM to 5 PM (with a lunchtime break from 12 PM until 1 PM).
10 • Faculty of Electrical Engineering
This place is not a park, it is actually the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Prague! Located in Dejvice, which is in Prague 6, this Faculty’s campus is filled with gorgeous cherry blossoms every year. It is the least touristy area so this is definitely one of the most hidden places to see the blossoms in Prague during Spring!
When it gets windy, this square gets filled with the most beautiful blossom blizzard ever!
11 • Havlíček Gardens
Called Grébovka or Havlíčkovy Sady in Czech, the Havlíček Gardens are inspired by the Italian Renaissance. They have fountains, lakes, statues,
Grébovka is open every day from 6 AM to 10 PM (Nov-Mar) and from 6 AM to 12 AM (Apr-Nov).
12 • Troja Castle
This Baroque castle surrounded by pretty gardens and a vineyard is closed during wintertime. It opens in April when it’s cherry trees are in full bloom. To get in, you need to pay an entrance fee of 120 CZK or 60 CZK if you are a student. If I only had to pick one, this place is probably the best one to see the cherry blossoms in Prague!
The Troja Castle is only open from April until the end of October from 10 AM to 6 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) and from 1 PM to 6 PM (on Fridays).
13 • Prague Botanical Garden
After visiting the Troja Castle, you should head to the Prague Botanical Garden. This large garden covers approximately 1750 square feet and includes a lovely Japanese Garden which is home to Japanese Cherry trees.
The Botanical Garden is open every day from 9 AM to 4 PM (Nov-Feb) and from 9 AM to 7 PM (Mar-Oct).
